Principal of Holy Cross Catholic School, Kari Peterson, led the Mary’s Way of the Cross experience at Holy Cross Parish earlier this week. A powerful look into the Passion of Christ, attendees were invited to walk with Mrs. Peterson down the road to Calvary alongside Mary through the Stations of the Cross. They witnessed the events unfold through her eyes as she saw her son embrace and fulfill an ultimate demonstration of love.
Mrs. Peterson is no stranger to the experience — she lead it once before about ten years ago. Her involvement was inspired by her personal desire to share the Stations from a mother’s perspective that tugged at her own heart.
“I felt that every mother carries a cross,” she explained, “When we care for our children, watch them suffer and love them through all of life’s challenges and triumphs — we experience something similar to what Mary endured as she walked with Jesus on his road to Calgary. This [was] a way for me to personally connect to both our Lord and his Mother.”
Those who attended the Stations gathered and prayed together as they reflected and listened to the perspectives from Mary’s view point. Stations included moving images and songs that helped participants more deeply connect to the Passion of the Cross.
The experience was made possible by the partnership between the school and the staff at Holy Cross Parish, who strive to help families find ways to become even more involved with the community.
“Efforts like this build connections within the parish and relationships among those who are excited to learn more together,” said Mrs. Peterson.
