Fifth Grade News

Fifth grade has been an exciting adventure so far, filled with fun projects and new activities that keep us busy every day! From hands-on experiments and creative art projects to learning about fascinating topics in history and science, we’re always discovering something new. We’re having so much fun while learning, and we are excited to share all the things we’ve been working on!

Heritage Hill Field Trip

Our 4th and 5th grade classes took a fun and educational field trip to Heritage Hill. The park is an outdoor museum that brings Wisconsin’s history to life with its historic buildings, costumed actors, and interactive exhibits. We explored different areas, like the fur trader’s cabin, where we learned about early trade between Native Americans and European settlers, and the Pioneer Village where we saw how early settlers built homes, farmed, and attended a one-room schoolhouse. In addition to all the history, we tried traditional 1800s games, watched cool things being made in the blacksmith shop, and how newspapers were made way back when! We can’t forget to mention how cool the playground was! It was an unforgettable day of hands-on learning, and we walked away with a deeper understanding of Wisconsin’s past.

All Saints Day

Our 5th grade students have been busy researching saints in preparation for a special presentation on November 1st after mass! Each student has chosen a saint to study, and on the day of the event, they will dress as their saint and give a short oral presentation about their life and significance. Following the presentations, everyone is invited to the gathering space to view our visual projects and learn even more about each saint. We welcome all to join us for this meaningful celebration.

The Great Cookie Campaign

Our 5th grade class is excited to launch a fun and educational Cookie Campaign to teach the elementary students about the importance of voting and how elections work! The campaign will feature two “political” parties: the Sugar Cookie Party and the Chocolate Chip Cookie Party. We’ll be putting up campaign flyers, hosting a “Meet the Candidates” day, and organizing our very own election for Holy Cross students on November 5th. Through this hands-on experience, we will learn the value of voting and civic engagement in a creative and tasty way!

Baby Onesie Drive

Our 5th grade is hosting a Baby Onesie Drive to support the Alexandrina Pregnancy Resource Center! We are aiming to collect 100 onesies in sizes newborn to 18 months to donate to families in need. You can help us reach our goal by donating new or gently used baby onesies. Your generosity will make a big difference for babies and their families. You can drop off your donation at school by 11/5. Thank you for your support!
