Holy Cross students take time to pray, learn at the Shrine
This is a question-and-answer-session between Sr. Carolyn Zahringer and our second grade class during the all-school field trip to the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help. This was the school’s second annual trip to the Shrine. Holy Cross students and staff celebrated Mass, spent time in private prayer in the crypt, prayed the walking rosary, and learned about the Shrine from a historical perspective.
Late last year, Bishop David Ricken officially approved the Marian apparitions that occurred on the site of the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help. For more information about the Shrine, please visit: www.shrineofourladyofgoodhelp.com/

Johnny Appleseed’s birthday and his memory were observed Monday, September 26th, by the second grade class. Students were invited to bring an “apple anything” to enjoy as a snack during the afternoon in conjunction with math. We looked at the variety of items brought from apple gum, apple jacks, apple juice, whole apples and sliced apples to caramel apples and apples with sprinkles, apple salad to apple pie. We collected data to see IF the largest whole apple had the most seeds or not. This year the biggest apple DID have the most seeds. We found that one apple had seed chambers but NO seeds inside at all. We read about Johnny’s life and what he stood for and how he not only spread apple seeds around the country, he also spread seeds of the word of God during his travels. His life story continues to live on to this day in beautifully written children’s books for children of all ages, 2 to 102 and beyond!
