Welcome to the
4th Grade site!
Overview
They say time flies when you’re having fun …
Well, I must be having a blast because I cannot believe this is already my 8th year as the Fourth Grade teacher at Holy Cross Catholic School! I began teaching Fourth Grade in 2004, and before that at Holy Cross I taught Grades 5-8, and a 2nd/3rd multi-age classroom. For me, teaching is a vocation and a calling, but never a job. ♥
My hope is that this web page will serve two functions: that it be a glimpse into our 4th grade world so that visitors can see the wonderful things that are happening and the learning taking place in our classroom, and that it may be a communication tool for 4th Grade Families between home and school.
Parents – visit our webpage for posts of important upcoming 4th Grade events. Please see the “Links” column for important websites, including a link to information on the Off the Hook Needleworx Crew, a 4th & 5th Grade Christian outreach club.
Visitors – thank you for visiting our webpage, and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!
Off the Hook Needleworx Crew
A Christian Outreach Club
- a fun, creative extracurricular club whose mission is to offer love and prayers in every stitch!
Mission
The club’s mission is to be a Christian community outreach team who strives to learn the crafts of crochet and knitting to prayerfully create beautiful items for people in our families, in our community, and in our world.
We wish to create shawls, blankets, and other handmade needle-art items for people in need of warmth and comfort (such as people who are homebound, ill, or in places of care), those who are blessed with times of celebration (such as new mothers and babies), and to people who simply need to know they are loved.
It is my hope that students gain not only skills in art form, creativity, and dexterity, but also take cherished memories from our club with them throughout their lives. More than anything, we look forward to our gifts being received by those who can use a little comfort and need to feel that they matter – to know that there are people out there who care about them and are praying for them.
Background
In February of 2011, I began to learn the beautiful art form of crochet, and have since been thoroughly enjoying the creative process. I was also searching for something that my students and I could do together, that would ultimately benefit others, plus be fun and creative at the same time. I mentioned to some of my students that I had begun crocheting, and many became very excited. Some of them mentioned that they had always wanted to learn. So I bought some crochet hooks and yarn, and we began practicing. Many of the students took to it with great excitement. The boys and girls found that they were, in fact, quite talented at it!
The “seed” was planted, and it blossomed into an after-school extracurricular outreach club that usually meets 2-4 times per month (once a week to once every other week).
Club Member Information
This extracurricular outreach club is open to any 4th through 8th grade Holy Cross student who is interested in reaching out to those in need, who wishes to create something beautiful, be a part of a learning community, have fun and socialize, and who will commit to working on projects in his or her spare time.
As an extracurricular activity, students spend personal time practicing new stitches, and working on their projects before meetings. Our first yearly meetings focus on learning and reviewing the necessary crochet and knit stitches for most types of projects. Students receive a beginner pattern/project to complete as practice “homework,” learn how to read a simple pattern, and practice at home during his or her free recreational time. Meetings are held in the 4th grade classroom atHolyCrossCatholicSchool, and are fun, informative, productive, and structured!
Interested students may join our Club any time during the school year. Please see our current schedule below for the upcoming dates and times of our next meetings.
The club membership fee is $15.00 which goes toward the cost of initial supplies of hooks, needles, yarn, and notions for the first practice projects. Once members have practiced and begun mastering some of the crochet and/or knitting stitches and techniques, members will choose an individual service project and may need to purchase additional yarn and supplies for their chosen projects.

Volunteering
We are so happy to invite those friends and family members who knit and crochet to join us and teach us their techniques and tips. If you have knowledge to share, we want to learn from you! Some people choose to come in for a meeting or two to share what they know in a workshop-style format, while others just like to join in and knit and crochet along with us! Please feel free to contact me if you would like to join us.
