Lander Guevara is an eighth-grade student at Holy Cross Catholic School, and has attended Holy Cross since he was in third grade. “I know everybody here, so it’s like a family,” he said. “Something else I like – our teachers can help us learn because we’ve got smaller classes.”
His favorite subject is math, because “numbers and things with math come easy to me, which makes it even more fun to learn.” He also enjoys expanding his knowledge about a variety of topics in social studies.
Lander values the opportunity to attend a Catholic school because “we can talk about and share our faith openly here.” He intends to continue his faith-based education next year at Notre Dame de la Baie Academy. After college, he would like to pursue a career as a mechanical engineer.
Lander also is supporting an effort to help the people of Honduras who have been impacted by Hurricanes Eta and Iota. His father, who’s a native of Honduras, and a close friend of his father are gathering donations to transport to Honduras in a large shipping unit.
“They need a lot of help, so I’m trying to help spread the word,” Lander said. “Whatever people can do would help a lot.” Donated items may be placed in a drop box by Nov. 30 outside Holy Cross, 3002 Bay Settlement Road, Green Bay. For large items, please call the school at 920-468-0625 to make arrangements. Items needed include tents, blankets, canned goods, first-aid supplies, diapers, toys, mattresses, hats, work gloves, backpacks, clothes, shoes/boots, toilet paper, towels and more.
Lander is the youngest of four children in his family; his two older sisters are graduates of Holy Cross Catholic School. During his free time, Lander enjoys playing soccer and skateboarding.
Thank you Lander for your efforts to help those in need and also for being one of the many wonderful students who contribute to our vibrant Holy Cross community.
